In a recent thread on quickdraw-3d@devtools.apple.com titled "Has Apple Lost 3D Market", a group of professional 3D animators questioned the ability of Macintosh to compete with the likes of SoftImage and 3D Studio Pro on Windows with only ElectricImage as a professional offering, insufficient processing power, the inability of QuickDraw 3D to compete with OpenGL and the lack of visibility in the media. Having our powerful and intuitive 3D modeling, rendering, and animation product ignored and strongly believing in the Macintosh, VIDI's President provided a rebuttal which was re-printed on the QuickDraw 3D web site along with a much-appreciated Presenter 3D product highlight on the April edition's front page.

VIDI appreciates the action take by Apple to rebut the contention that Apple has lost the 3D market and showing that there already are professional 3D alternatives to Electric Image by mentioning some of Presenter 3D's outstanding 3D capabilities. However, the problem of lack of recognition for Macintosh technology will not be solved by a single rebuttal. It will take the efforts of Apple, its clone partners, the professional 3D animation software developers, and the professional 3D modeling and animation community working together to improve the 3D offerings on the Macintosh and bring them to the attention of the media. In that regard, VIDI is working with a group of interested 3D professionals to survey the professional 3D situation on the Macintosh and proceed with the formation of a Professional 3D Macintosh Animators Group to provide a strong voice to Apple, its clone partners, the professional 3D animation software developers, and the media. To participate in the survey and add your voice and opinions, visit the Professional 3D Macintosh Animators web site at http://www.webnation.com/mac3d/. Your interest, support, and advice will be greatly appreciated.

See you on the Mac3D site.
