Mac 3D Team Volunteering

The Mac 3D Team is a grassroots volunteer effort to upgrade the credibility and use of 3D on the Macintosh. Providing you with the powerful 3DJoy software for professional 3D modeling, rendering, and animation was just the beginning of the effort required to turning around the decline of 3D on the Macintosh around. This software and the website provide a launch pad from which we can take on the challenge of rebuiding the reputation and expanding the use of 3D on the Macintosh. To be successful in this, we will need a lot of help from anyone interested in having the Macintosh become the 3D player it once was. The specific contributions we need are listed by type within five areas: Promotion, Editorial Submissions, Recruiting New Members, Providing Web Content, and Software Development. These are listed below. If you have additional suggestions that will help the Mac3DTeam reach more people and provide better services or have already made contibutions, email them to join3dteam@aol.com.

RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS
To have a stronger voice and get the benefits they can provide, the Mac 3D Team needs your help to recruit:

Schools, Teachers, and Students - This group would benefit greatly from using 3DJoy and the Plug-in Development Toolkit and can contribute to the Team by developing tutorials, models, and plug-ins.

Ray Dream and Other Low-End Users - This group is deeply affected by MetaCreations decision to drop its graphic products and can benefit greatly by upgrading to 3DJoy.

Professional 3D Users - They can benefit from the great modeling, RenderMan support, and Windows NT and Linux render server capability and can provide professional input and examples on the use of 3D to novice and amateur 3D users.

Web Developers - They can benefit from using the 3DJoy software and can help with promotion by letting everyone who visits the websites containing 3DJoy-developed content know about the Mac 3D Team and 3DJoy.

Software Developers - Can use the open source for plug-ins and render drivers to enhance 3DJoy's capabilities and gain access to a large user base.

NEW SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT
To expand the capabilities of 3DJoy and add to the benefits of being a Mac 3D Team member, the Team needs your help to develop:

Motion and Object Deformation Plug-ins - With the Plug-in Development SDK, outlined on the Expand page, third party programmers and schools have a great opportunit to use the open source to enhance the 3DJoy capabilities by developing motion and object effects plug-ins. If you already are working with the toolkint, contact us at join3dteam@aol.com and let us know what you are working on.

OpenGL and Render Plug-ins - An open source toolkit is being developed to allow you to create plug-ins for OpenGL and third party render engines.

Windows NT and Linux Render Servers - To our already powerful RenderMan support, we are in the process of adding batch render server capabilities to 3DJoy based on the Blue Moon Rendering Tools (BMRT) running over a Linux and Windows NT network. BMRT is a high-quality RenderMan-compliant rendering system for Linux and Windows NT computers. Although BMRT does not execute on the Macintosh, 3DJoy can prepare BMRT rendering jobs for Linux and Windows NT over a network. Anyone interested in becoming a beta tester or learning about BMRT by checking the BMRT page for instructions and information.
