"New Stuff" for the

Mac 3D Team

So far there have been over 20,000 downloads of software from the Mac 3D Team website. Everyone downloading the software and providing an email address has been receiving a steady level of communication on Mac 3D Team progress. Many have made suggestions for software, website, and support improvements. Based on the input received, we are working on making changes and providing new services and capabilities to the Mac 3D Team. This includes upgrading and expanding the Mac3DTeam website offerings, providing a Beginners Tutorial, offering a Render Server capability where you can use Windows NT and Linux-based systems as render servers to the Macintosh, and expanding 3DJoy's capabilities to provide even more 3D power and performance Currently in the works is support for OpenGL and MacOSX. We are not the only ones in position to upgrade the capabilities of 3DJoy. We provide a Plug-in Developers Toolkit that enables programmers and schools to expand 3DJoy's power and capabilities.

To be even more effective in expanding the use and credibility of 3D on the Macintosh, we are looking at how to get more input and support from those who have downloaded the software. By improving our interaction with the Macintosh community, we will be able to determine the most effective for expanding the use and credibility of 3D on the Macintosh. We would appreciate getting your feedback and suggestions for how you and the Mac 3D Team can make a difference

CURRENT EFFORTS

We are working on making it easier to get started in using 3DJoy.
3Providing A Tutorial For Beginners
As an alternative to the more comprehensive tutorial already available online, we now provide you with a Beginners Tutorial, created by Steven Sahyun. This tutorial is designed to be a step-by-step guide showing the novice user how to use the 3DJoy program to create a simple object, make it look nice, make it move, and how to then use that movie in a web page.

Here is the new stuff we currently are working on:
Windows NT/Linux Render Servers For The Macintosh
To our already powerful RenderMan support, we are in the process of adding batch render server capabilities to 3DJoy based on the Blue Moon Rendering Tools (BMRT) running over a Linux and Windows NT network. BMRT is a high-quality RenderMan-compliant rendering system for Linux and Windows NT computers. Although BMRT does not execute on the Macintosh, 3DJoy can prepare BMRT rendering jobs for Linux and Windows NT over a network. Anyone interested in becoming a beta tester or learning about BMRT should check the BMRT page for instructions and information.

Here is what you can do to create some new stuff:
Develop Plug-ins To Enhance 3DJoy's Capabilities
With the Plug-in Development SDK, outlined on the Expand page, third party programmers and schools have a great opportunit to enhance the 3DJoy capabilities by developing motion and object effects plug-ins. If you already are working with the toolkit, contact us at join3dteam@aol.com and let us know what you are working on.
