Bringing 3Djoy To The Macintosh Even though VIDI has closed and Presenter 3D, our professional 3D modeling, render, and animation product, is discontinued, the former VIDI programmers and I intend to see that this technology becomes available to the Macintosh community. This technology will be reincarnated in the form of the new 3Djoy product and will be available for download to the Mac 3D Team from this website and on a CD. This product will have the same professional 3D capabilities as its predecessor The Mac 3D Team, composed of 3D novices, students, advanced amateurs, professionals, and educators, is the key to making the effort to build 3D on the Macintosh a success. Many have contacted Apple to request support for the effort to build the use of 3D on the Macintosh. With their interest in multimedia, education, and game design, it seems to make sense that Apple would find it in their interest to support this effort. Here is the situation to-date:
A note from Dennis Holloway: To: apple@applemarketing.com Dennis is a great 3D modeler and has done great things with our software in representing ancient Indian habitats, as his website demonstrates. While I do not blame Apple for not supporting VIDI directly, I do believe that they should have done more for 3D on the Mac and can do so now supporting the OpenGL standard, releasing RenderMan with their next OS and bundling our free software as many have suggested.
Here is the extent of Apple's response to Dennis and others: Nick,

| Subject: Apple response to Presenter 3D From: "Steve Wozniak" <steve@woz.org> To: vidinick@aol.com I only just heard today of your 3D gift. I sometimes hear of companies that get lots of "Mac please" emails and respond positively, saying that they will give a Mac version consideration at least. I'm sorry to hear that Apple's response to Presenter 3D and Mac 3D is so 'vacant' and negative. It seems that they should have thanked you for past support and current feedback, and acted as a good friend would. Steve ------------------------------- Steve Wozniak steve@woz.org http://woz.org ------------------------------- A family of five should have five votes. ----------------------------------------------- Steve's response is much appreciated and yet it signals that it's best not to count on Apple even if it is in their benefit to support this effort. |

I am greatly encouraged by the number of educational
and first time users who are planning to take advantage of the availability of Presenter
3D and the number of professionals who have been doing 3D solely on Windows and welcome
a Mac solution. This is exactly the groups that I am trying to reach with the 3D on the Macintosh campaign.
I have also noticed an increase in the number of people who have heard of the offer
by word of mouth. One of the main things you can do to help is to spread the word
to media, user groups, schools and others and also let us know what you think. ---------- JUST TALK IT UP, FOLKS, WE MUST KEEP UP THE NOISE LEVEL
ON THIS ISSUE. - Mike Klausmeier ---------- Presenter 3D is an awesome program. Thank you very much!
- Patrick Tappe ---------- I think the recent announcements regarding the deal with
Conix and the release of OpenGL4Java for the Mac will start to help. - Rick Roy -
QED Technologies ---------- What you are doing now is exciting. If this program is
a professional modeling system, giving it for free is a real "eye-catcher".
Maybe there is a future for your company in different plug-ins, textures, and models,
such as many others have done. I for one would buy them if they integrated into this
system to produce results as good as, or better than TV or movie graphics!!! - Walt
Barrows - Flights of Fantasy SpaceArt Studios ---------- I will spread the word. - James Naish - RCA ---------- It is refreshing to see a company willing to go to such
lengths to prove a point. Now that Apple has sold out to the capitalists, I fear
that this may be too late. - Adam Andrus - Evolve Singularity Productions |
