Website Redesign

Your suggestions for empowering the Mac 3D Team effort and improving the website are welcome. One suggestion already implemented, was to provide you with the opportunity to promote the Mac 3D Team effort by providing a banner for you to upload to your or other sites for linking to http://www.vidi.com and to recommend to others.

Suggestions for E-mail Campaigns
Some E-mail campaings you can participate in.

1) Include A Note With Each E-mail

Alan Jones sent in an interesting suggestion for using emails for promotion. Following up on this, Mac 3D Team supporters could include a message in all the emails they send. Something like: JOIN THE MAC 3D TEAM at http://www.vidi.com.

2) Send A "Funnie" Chain Letter

Karan Linley has an interesting follow up suggestion, "How about something in the way of a fun game or a brain teaser which can be passed on from student to student a bit like a 'funnie' or a chain letter but without the usual connotation."

This Funnie/Chain Letter suggestion hits the mark as a grassroots strategy because it provides everyone with an opportunity to support the effort. The first step in implementing this grassroots strategy is to get some sample "funnie" or "chain letter" email ideas submitted to Join3DTeam@aol.com for approval.

Each submission should have a Mac 3D Team/3DJOY focus, something in the way of a fun game or a brain teaser, be funny and/or informative about expanding 3D on the Macintosh, and not be offensive or too long. After being approved, the email should be individually addressed to people you know.

There is to be no "spamming". The purpose is to entertain and inform, not to infuriate the receiver. We want the receiver to consider supporting the effort to advance 3D on the Macintosh, not oppose it.

Special Efforts Needed

To enhance the use of 3D on the Macintosh, special efforts from people with special skills are needed. Because the Mac 3D Team banner and word of mouth campaign is gaing strength, efforts now need to be made in providing 3D tutorial materials that make it easier to learn to use 3DJoy, 3D articles that provide the latest 3D technology news, and 3D success stories that let you know the accomplishments being made by Macintosh 3D users.

Contact Schools

The Mac 3D Team is a grassroots effort that is backed by inidividuals who range from 3D novices to professional who are interested in seeing 3D use enhanced on the Macintosh. The key area to 3D growth includes students and schools. This is starting to happen because of people like Katie who is working on getting 3Djoy into the Multimedia program in her junior high school and Eric Jennings who is interested in using his school experience to expand 3Djoy's capabilities by developing plug-ins for it.

Hello, my name is Katie Rivard. I am currently in the freshman Multimedia class for my junior high school.

I downloaded the vidi "test drive" demo versions of Presenter and Modeler last fall, and with the help of the tutorials online, I figured out that Modeler is one neat program. I'm glad you guys decided to continue making it under 3Djoy!

Eric Jennings says, "You guys are doing a great job. I'm a big fan of open source software, and your stance for promoting open source tools for the mac will strengthen the platform as a 3D powerhouse.

I can possibly help by creating new plugins for 3DJoy, as I am a 4th year computer science major, with moderate experience in computer graphics."

Recruit Family and Friends

Finding recruits for the Mac 3D Team can be as easy as getting someone in your family or a friend to join. Whether introducing 3D to your children as Paul did or to your parents as Brad did, sharing your 3D knowledge with those close to you is a personally rewarding way to expand 3D on the Macintosh.

Hi,

I would like to join the Mac 3D Team. At present I will display the Team banner on my homepage and will be telling friends etc about the new Mac 3D Team and the future 3Djoy software. I am also teaching my son how to use 3D packages and hopefully will be doing the same in his school.

Keep up the good work and I'll keep you posted about what I'm doing.

Bye for now,

Paul Willis

I would like to join the Mac 3D Team.

I will be telling friends and family about the Mac 3D Team and be displaying an ad in my email sig encouraging people to join the effort and informing them of the Mac 3D Team and the upcoming 3Djoy software. I am also teaching my father how to do use 3d packages and will hopefully be doing the same for other people.

Thanks,

Brad Tompkins

Improving the Mac 3D Team Site
The Mac 3D Team site was originally designed to have a loose and fun feel. Based on significant feedback, many have suggested that the site should be redesigned with emphasis on making it more navigable and professional looking without losing the "fun". It will take a team effort in order to do a credible job and volunteering to spearhead this effort is award winning web designer Leon Hubbard and graphic artist Perry Marks.

Let us know if you have an idea for improving look and utility of the website. Email
Join3DTeam@aol.com if you there is something you would like to do to help. As an example, one supporter offered to create Java extensions for the website.
