3DJoy's Presenter module is recognized for its intuitive camera, light, and microphone controls on a Digital SoundStage™, facial and lip sync animation, 3D Doppler sound effects, Real-Time Surface editing, physics effects, Multi-Target Morphing, Explosion, a powerful ray tracer, and a blazing Phong shader. For more information, you can browse the Tech Reports and Information areas and the Digital SoundStage interface report.

Render Speed and Power

In its rendering lineup, Presenter provides a blazing-fast Phong shader for animation and preview rendering that rivals the speed of the Electric Image shader, a fast, powerful Ray Tracer for rendering high quality images, integrated QuickTime VR panorama and object movie production, and industry leading RenderMan support with a special render server capability based on the Blue Moon Render Tools running on Windows NT and Linux operating systems.

Adding Real Physics Properties

Presenter offers real physics properties that let you simulate Elasticity, Inertia, Glue, Gravity, Torque, Collision along with motion plug-ins that let you flock birds, animals, and fish, apply automatic four-legged motion to animals, and track an object no matter where it moves.

3DJoy's Modeler module offers all the modeling capabilities provided there. It is recognized in the industrial and product design fields for its powerful, CAD-accurate and intuitive modeler that offers high-powered spline-based modeling and Digital Clay sculpting.

Spline Versus Polygonal

While most low and medium cost 3D products offer polygonal modeling, Presenter offers powerful and Illustrator-like spline design tools, provides faster screen refresh, and requires much less space than polygonal modelers do. This makes 3D easier to learn, more productive to use, and better suited for organic modeling. Plus its Boolean capabilities provide the cut, join, and intersection solid modeling capabilities found only on much more expensive systems.

Lost In Space?

A frequent complaint among most novice users is "Being lost in 3D space". Modeler not only offers a four-window interface for maximum control over 3D positioning and visualization, but also provides the ability to set depth of views with just the push of the space bar; on-the-fly snaps; rulers and a variety of grid options; Illustrator-like spline and drawing tools with direct key commands; and the ability to select vertices in any window, including the 3D window, and dragging to any other window view.

Enhances Productivity

Modeler offers the most intuitive "in-place" with preview controls over extrude, lathe, loft (skin), path extrude, bevel extrude, and sweep. By letting you see and adjust the intended 3D object before it is created, you save time and effort and get exactly what you wanted the first time. Plus it offers powerful, hierarchical grouping and library controls that follow the standard Macintosh file and folder structure and are made easy with automatic name assignment of objects and groups.

Accurate Snapping and Calculations

Modeler provides a powerful set of snapping options that provide for accurate placement of vertices and the ability to calculate surface area, volume, and dry and liquid, and volume of the thickness of a wall as in a glass bottle.

Presenter plug-In capabilities extend the functionality of rendering and animation in several ways. RenderMan Shader and Textures plug-ins use the plug-in paradigm to assign and control the shape and appearance of object surfaces. Animator plug-ins automate the assignment of object reshape and motion used in automating the animation process.

Animator Plug-ins

Presenter provides an interface for plug-in Animator modules that automate the animation process because they can access and assign new values to all of the object attributes available in the user interface. These include: object position, rotation, scale, surface color, etc. Specialized Animator modules can perform complex animations, such as walking, facial expressions, and the wind blowing objects around. The user simply assigns the various Animator functions to the appropriate objects in the model, e. g. left elbow or right foot.

Plug-in Examples

To show how plug-ins can build on and expand on the power in Presenter, we have included three plug-in examples. These examples can be found in the Plug-ins Area on the User Repository

Creating A Flock of Flying Birds

The first example, created by Perry Marks, shows you how to use the Flock Animator Plug-In Module and " object morphing" capabilities to create a realistic flock of geese flying south for the winter. The realistic beat of the wings was defined using only two changes in the shape of the wings. From here, all the up and down motions with accelerated motion at the wingtips were defined by the manipulation of two sliders. Take a look at this example and see how the easy the flocking shown in the movie "Fly Away Home" could be. This would also apply to horse and dinosaur stampedes (especially when used in conjunction with the Quadruped plug-in described below), fish swimming, and jets flying in formation.

The Horse Animator Project

The second, created by Doug Ward, shows you how to us the Quadruped animator for galloping horses and other quadrupeds. This plug-in automates what normally would be a time consuming and difficult animation task. Also available is the source code and Code Warrior projects for programmers. This requires the Animator SDK defined below.

Back-And-Forth Motions

The third plug-in example, also created by Doug Ward, shows you how to use the Angle8 animator for back-and-forth motions like the motion of the legs of a centipede. Animating each leg one at a time could be a horrendously time consuming task, especially if you were doing a thousand legs for a millipede. The Angle8 plug-in automates these task and makes it easy to create these types of repetitive motions.
