How To

use Presenter 3D for Internet graphics and movies

Adding MIDI music to web pages

Quicktime now has the ability to use MIDI audio encoding. The "Quicktime Musical Instruments" system extension contains a set of built-in instruments (brass, strings, reeds, special effects, etc.) If your browser uses the Quicktime plug-in, you're probably listening to some music right now. This musical selection plays for nearly two minutes, but the file size is less than 9K, so it is very efficient for the Internet.

After the MIDI file was converted to a Quicktime movie, it was embedded in this page by adding one line of HTML code:

<EMBED SRC="../../../images/mikro153.mov" AUTOPLAY=TRUE CONTROLLER=FALSE HIDDEN=TRUE PLUGINSPAGE="http://quicktime.apple.com">

If you want to create a web page with a movie and a background score, a good strategy is to embed the video and audio as separate files. Use an embedded MPEG file for video and an embedded QuickTime MIDI file for audio. This page demonstrates that technique.

Several applications for converting MIDI to QuickTime compatible format are available at the Info-Mac HyperArchive.
